Dolores, a beautiful name which derives from Spanish/ Latin - dolor means sorrow /pain.
This painting was created during a time of immense physical pain and many long months of recovery from a spinal injury. Months of struggle to move, stuck at home howling from pain and popping opioids like candy. Spinal procedures, hospitals, horrific opioid withdrawal symptoms, not being able to work, paint or live my life as I used to with a sprinkle of deteriorating effect on my mental health.
This artwork highlights that it is important to stay positive during the tough times and see the colours of the world shining bright, appreciating every little good thing in our lives. We choose what we see in this world and turning up the volume on all the bright colours in life can help to overcome the darkness.
Original painting technique and size: acrylic paint on 40x50cm canvas
