‘Shield Maiden’ is inspired by the legend of Lagertha, a Viking ruler from what is now Norway, and the onetime wife of the famous Viking Ragnar Lodbrok.

She may not have been a historical figure, but a reflection of tales about badass Viking warrior women from the 12th Century
