I immensely enjoyed painting ‘Sakura’. This painting is a part of the new collection of strong female portraits, which I started working on in 2020 - showcasing my eclectic style of painting, colour pallets and themes. This painting is a nod towards my early portraits, where I used skin tones that aren't seemingly the obvious choice. Here Sakura (which is the girl’s name as well as meaning ‘cherry blossom’ in Japanese) looks almost as if she has reflections of the bright neon lights of Tokyo on her face.
Very simple styling of clothing and hair guides your focus to the facial expression of Sakura and what you will notice is that I’ve painted her eyes in such a way that they follow you around the room.
