ART & DESIGN
I’m very exited to be taking you to the part of the world which has been on my bucket list for ages – Scotland! Today we are going to north east tip of Aberdeenshire to a fishing town with stunning views over the beach. Here lives Kerry with her hubby of 24 years Simon, 3 kids who have flown the next, and their youngest daughter is still at home. They also have 3 cats.
In Kerry’s own words:
How would you describe the type of your home and your style of décor?
It’s a 4 bedroom semi-detached Edwardian house, with tons of original features. Style of décor would definitely be maximalist but not cluttered.
- What inspires you when decorating your home and what has drawn you to your style?
For years I chose to decorate how I thought other people thought I should decorate. It wasn’t until I gave myself permission to be authentically “me” that I really fell in love with interiors.
-Would you like to share few tips on how you choose art for your home?
Ooo I love choosing art! The vast majority of art in my home is from second hand shops, I love to rummage around in dusty corners looking for treasures! I am very picky and selective when it comes to buying “new” prints, they really have to resonate with me. I say go with your gut, and only buy something you love, otherwise you’ll tire of it quickly.
- Do you choose art to go with your home décor or other way round?
Art to go with home décor for sure. But sometimes I see something and buy it without having a place in mind for it.
- How do you arrange your wall galleries?
I’m am SO slapdash when it comes to gallery walls. The only one I’ve planned out before hanging was the living room wall beside the tv.
- How do you chose a frame for the art and where you get your frames?
For the second hand ones, I usually just leave well enough alone and leave them in their original frames, though I may paint the frame if it’s colour is really not matching where I’m planning to hang the picture. For new prints, I tend to buy the frames from second hand shops as well! I have bought a few from pound shops and Ikea.
- Any other tips when it comes to styling art in interiors?
Just go with your gut instincts.
