ART & DESIGN
“Marta, come quick! Your art is on TV!” - when I heard those words from my husband, I ran as quick as I could loosing my slippers on the way to the living room! There it was! My “Lalaland” art on the screen on our TV. Let me just explain and set a scene here… It wasn’t news, art or interiors programme but a Netflix documentary with none other than my eternal crush Ryan Raynolds! (gulp!)
I instantly recognised the house of one of my art collectors and this is where I’m taking you this week. Sorry, this has no affiliation and does not include Ryan Raynolds. However he’s seen my art on his documentary and this is the thought that I will be holding on to.
ECLECTIC MAXIMALIST - HOME OF VERITY AKA @thetruthbehindthe_decor
Today we are visiting a small town on the outskirts of Manchester where Verity lives with her husband Mike, 5 cats, 2 spaniels and 3 chickens.
- How would you describe the type of your home and your style of décor?
We live in a Victorian 2 bed end terrace house and I would say my decor style is eclectic maximalist.
- What inspires you when decorating your home and what has drawn you to your style?
I have taken a lot of inspiration from Instagram. There are so many fabulous homes out there.I haven’t intentionally created a style, I just go with what I love and what evokes feelings in me. I’d say I decorate with my heart and don’t follow the latest trends. I love dark aesthetics and I also love the vintage/retro feel.
-Would you like to share few tips on how you choose art for your home?
We have art all over the house, I literally don’t think we have a spare bit of wall anywhere. I just love prints and they are an extension of my personality. I recently bought a JH Lynch print of Tina from an antiques fair. I’ve always loved that image. I love the nostalgia it evokes. I’m a 70’s child and am drawn to things from that era. I just go with prints that sing to me and make my heart flutter.
- Do you choose art to go with your home décor or other way round?
I just buy something that appeals to me, I’m all about eclectic maximalism so there’s no need for matchy matchy. I guess I do tend to have a colour theme running through the decor and art but that’s probably because I’m drawn to certain colours like pink, green and gold.
- How do you arrange your wall galleries?
We have a huge gallery wall in the living room. I didn’t plan it. It just started with a few prints and then it just organically grew over time. I’m not one for planning, I just go with my gut instinct. I think each gallery wall does tend to have a theme though.
- How do you choose a frame for the art and where you get your frames?
I get my frames from various places, ikea, eBay, Amazon. I’ve recently started buying from charity shops, you can get some amazing unique pieces that look amazing.
- Any other tips when it comes to styling art in interiors?
I personally think you should just go with what you love that way you can’t go wrong.
